The back of the charm is hollow.

These were purchased back in 2009 and kept in a well-sealed container to keep additional aging from taking place. These are nicely antiqued, with darkening in the eyes, nose, around the mouth/teeth, and the bones. Lightweight enough to wear as earrings, make into a pendant. Strong enough to add to a keychain, a zipper pull, or add to just about any craft idea.
